Patterning and Spacing in Your Scrapbooks

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:18 am

How can you arrange your scrapbook page to best show off your mementos and embellishments? You can place everything in the center of your page, place a single focus item in the center, or divide the page into sections adding items to each section. You may also choose to lay the items out in a standard recipe or calendar layout.

Shapes also make interesting placement patterns. Common shapes include circles, squares, hearts, and stars. However, you can also place items in object patterns such as mountains, trains, or Christmas trees.

The shape you choose for your scrapbook will depend entirely on your theme. For instance, a logical shape for a wedding or Valentines Day scrapbook is a heart. A nice shape for a Christmas scrapbook is a Christmas tree. You might make a cake pattern for you niece the pastry cook. Let your imagination and creativity be your guide.

Various ready made patterning templates are available on the market.

Spacing is a difficult matter. There is a fine line between having a balanced scrapbook page and a gaudy mess. If items are too closely spaced your reader will feel overwhelmed. If your items are spaced to far apart your viewer will feel short changed.

Look at your page.
Close your eyes.
Open them again.
Does your page look cluttered?
Does your page have more photographs than background?
Are your embellishments drawing the focus away from your mementos?

Then, you need to simplify your page a bit and increase the spacing between objects. Remember you can always add more pages.

Is your page bare?
Is your page uninteresting and colorless?

Then, think about adding some more mementos and colorful embellishments. In this way, you can decrease the spacing between objects making your page more energetic.

Commuting Hell!

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 10:45 pm

It’s dark, it’s cold, its’ just six thirty,

thoughts of sleep still dull my brain,

As I huddle down, inside my coat,

a commuter clone, just waiting for a train.

Insidious rain, just drizzling down,

through weak light of creeping dawn,

Paper sandwich bags and old coffee cups,

blowing past, look so forlorn.

We huddle together, like a colony of penguins,

sheltering from the rain,

As we struggle through, another stressful day,

wait for the downtown train.

Alien voices, from hidden speakers,

say there is a change, go to platform four,

Some move fast, must be beginners,

veterans stay still, heard it all before.

Styrofoam flavoured coffee,

“Giant cup for 10 cents saving!”.

Smells like an accident, in a science lab,

But quells my caffeine craving.

Lurid posters, on the wall,

Sell things, we just don’t need.

Early morning papers rustle,

As some attempt to read.

Alien voices, another problem,

With the downtown train,

“Can all commuters, on platform four,

go back to platform one again ! “

Those that stayed, have a knowing smirk,

written wide upon their face.

While all the ‘new boys’, like compliant sheep,

Back across the station race.

In the distance, the lights of a train,

Raise commuters hopes so high.

But it’s just a local freight train,

That mockingly thunders by.

But then at last, a train pulls up,

And we fight to claim a seat.

Lay back relax, in steaming clothes,

Commuter hell, finally complete.

Perception - Your Reality

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:09 am

Perception is a compilation
Of your past history
Through which you see
Erroneously or correctly
Your present reality
Perception affects your identity
Positively or negatively
Based on what you think
People believe you to be
Perception leads to projection
The good, bad, and ugly
As that which is within
Comes forth in expression
Whether it be embracing love
Or walls of rejection
Before you can proceed
Your inner self first must precede
To frame its image
And settle within
To be transparent and befriend
Or be reclusive and center in
To unconditionally accept humanity
Or prejudge and condemn individuality
Projection evolves into conception
Where thoughts, words and actions give birth
To what you’ve already contextualized within
Resulting in an outward manifestation
An invitation to all of creation
To coexist with you
Help make your dream come true
Or confirm your nightmare too
To walk along with you
From conception to maturation
From coincidence to confirmation
From self-awareness to personal revelation
To give you a sneak preview
Of what your perception can do
How it can brighten or cloud you
Right or wrong
You carry it all day long
Projecting it in word and song
Continually conceiving from night to dawn
Not knowing why people respond
Some distant, others fond
Of you the perceiving one
Whose world within and without
Have come and gone
Sometimes in the company of friends
Other times with nobody to lean on
So judge nothing before the time
Though there be no reason or rhyme
For God is sublime
Knowing man must first discover himself
Before he can find
The presumptuous perception
That misleads him much of the time

A prison or paradise
You can have through perception
It’s all up to you
Your illumination
Your imagination
Your stimulation
Your inner sensation
If it’s going to be
It’s up to me!
As a man thinks in his heart
So he is
This is no pop quiz
Come out therefore
From behind the bars
Take rest in paradise
And reach for the stars!

Home Theater Design - Plan the Theater You’ve Always Wanted

Filed under: Internet Product Resources — admin @ 3:51 pm

So, you’ve been bitten by the home theater bug, eh? You want to design your own home theater but are unsure about how to do it? Here are some quick tips on how to design you very own home theater. First, there are some basic questions you must answer.

1)How much space are you working with, or, alternatively, if you are building a room from scratch, how many people would you like to seat in your home theater? If using an existing room, what shape is it. Is it a closed room or is it open to the rest of the home? Where is the door in relation to the rest of the room? Would you like true theater type seating or will you be using sofas and love seats?

2)Will it be a multi-use room or a dedicated theater? If you are using the room for multiple purposes, you will need to be more careful about hiding components to integrate the theater with the rest of the room. Layout will become extremely important so you can maximize the use of the available space.

3)What is your home theater budget?- If you are fairly new to the game, you may not have a good idea about a realistic budget, so do some research on material and equipment costs.

4)What kind of décor are you trying to achieve. Do you want an art deco theater straight out of the 1930’s? How about something a little more contemporary? Do you have a design theme in your home you are trying to match? Have you seen pictures of home theaters that you liked? Are you working with an interior designer in the rest of your home, or did you use the services of an interior designer to achieve the décor you have throughout your home?

5)What is your favorite type of program material? Do you watch mostly DVD movies or are going to be using your home theater mostly for watching sports? Will you watch a lot of regular or HDTV in your theater? Do you even have a good HDTV feed into your home theater? Would you really enjoy watching concert DVDs or music videos? If this theater will be used primarily for watching movies, what is your favorite type, or genre, of motion picture? Large production, action movies have a different set of demands on your home theater system than do romance films, for example.

6)Do you have existing audio / video equipment you’d like to incorporate into your new theater? Should you? Some of your existing gear may work great or maybe you need to replace a piece or two. Maybe you’re building everything from the beginning and need all new gear.

7)Are you going to be doing the installation yourself or contracting with a professional installer? What is your level of expertise in the building trades? Are you a fast learner?

8)Will this theater be used mostly by you, or will family and friends be using this room even when you’re not around? If many people will be using the theater, consider investing in a really good remote control, and some programming to make everything really easy to use. You’ll thank yourself later, and so will everyone else. It’s very nice when the remote control is so simple that you can watch whatever you want by pressing one intuitively labeled button or icon that makes everything happen. With touch screen remote controls, the screen will change depending to reflect the appropriate source or task, so you have only the buttons displayed that you need, not a confusing jumble of buttons to control every conceivable function of your theater.

9)What are your performance requirements? Do you have any?Is it important that your pant legs flap in the breeze created by your subwoofers (use at least two)? Would it be really nice to understand every, single word of dialog? How about the video? Are you extremely picky when it comes to picture quality? Are you a trained viewer that is familiar with what video anomalies look like? Do you want the largest possible video image?

10)Will your theater be integrated with your house music system if you now, or will, have one, or will it be completely stand alone?

If you can answer these questions, you have begun the design process for your home theater. It’s important to know the answers so that you can formulate your design targets. A well designed home theater will bring countless hours of enjoyment to you, your family and friends. The more information you have, the happier you’ll be with the finished product.

Credit Card Fraud Prevention

Filed under: Better Net — admin @ 12:06 pm

Globally credit card fraud costs card issuers billions of dollars a year in fraudulent use of their cards. Some of this loss is passed back to retailers who failed to comply with the normal processing method for the card. Another part of the loss is insured. Nonetheless, as a cardholder you are potentially liable for any fraudulent use of your credit card. It is, therefore, imperative that you make yourself aware of what the current fraud scams are and how you can help to in the battle of credit card fraud prevention.

To this end, the following are some fraud prevention methods you can adopt:

* when using your card, never card out of your sight

* if you use the card in an old carbon-copy paper machine, keep the carbon-copy and destroy it later

* never use your credit card on an unsecured website

* never use your credit card to withdraw money in an ATM

Aside from the above, ensuring that you use certain technological advances with your credit card should also help in any credit card fraud prevention. In this regard, the following are currently popular with card issuers:

* identification photos: where your picture is shown on the front of the card

* fingerprinting: where a facsimile of your fingerprint is shown on the reverse of your card;

* chip and Pin systems: where the card has an encrypted chip containing details about the card and a PIN that ensures the card is a genuine issue. Essentially the chip contains the same information that used to be contained in the magnetic strip on the reverse of the card, but in chip format it is believed to be harder to copy.

Although each of these systems is no foolproof credit card fraud prevention method, with credit card fraud costing more and more each year, you can bet that issuers are going to be tackling this issue head-on: so stay aware of the latest credit card fraud preventions methods and help combat this growing problem.

How Do You Prepare To Become A Father?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:16 am

During pregnancy most expectant fathers still do not comprehend the concept of fatherhood. When most men find out they will soon be a father they clearly understand that they are not prepared. This leads to the very normal feelings of inadequacy and fear toward the unknown, which mixes with the excitement of the coming birth of their child. This feeling of inadequacy is caused by this lack of knowledge and preparation. The idea that during pregnancy men can prepare for their new role as a father does not occur to them, or leads to the realization that they don’t know how to prepare. Simply put, the average “father to be” does not understand what they can be doing, or should be doing during pregnancy.

There are things that any expectant father can do during the roughly 38 weeks his partner will be pregnant.

1. Learn as much as you can about pregnancy.

The best way to handle the unknown is to make it known. In advance of living through it, this means taking the time to explore the resources that are available from your doctor’s office, medical establishment, books, as well as online resources like this website. For learning about pregnancy the best website for expectant fathers is called “The Funky Stork”. This father recommends starting with the article called “Your Role as an Expectant Father” which can be found at URL: http://www.thefunkystork.com/articles/2/ In this article the author will echo many of the things you read here, but will also go into more detail about what you can expect each trimester and additional advice on what all expectant fathers should do. This father also recommends that every expectant father should read everything on the “The Funky Stork” website as soon as possible. This father agrees with the author that one can’t wait until the last trimester (last thirteen weeks) of the mother’s pregnancy to start this learning process because there is too much a man has to learn. However, if you reading this and you are already well into your pregnancy, it is not too late to learn. The more that you know about pregnancy, the easier the time remaining will become.

2. Determine the kind of father you want to be.

Becoming a father is a life changing event. Your time, your goals, your hopes and your dreams stop being your own. This may give you new insight into the behavior and concerns of your own parents. Take the time to consider what values and lessons you want to teach your new child. Talk to your partner in addition to spending some time alone reflecting on kind of parent you want to become.

3. Become and stay as involved as possible with your partner’s pregnancy.

Go to your partner’s doctor appointments and take prenatal classes with your partner. These are opportunities to learn about your partner’s condition and are a good way to support your partner. One of your roles at the expectant father is to support your partner emotionally and physically throughout all stages of the pregnancy. As it turns out, taking prenatal classes with your partner allows you time to adjust to the fact that there really is a baby coming into your life. It also helps give you some idea what to expect when the baby does come.

4. Take a class on how to put a car seat into your car.

Find an organization that is offering classes on child car seat installation. It is best if you have the car seat with you when you take the class. Often they will help you with the first installation of the car seat to make certain it is installed correctly. My wife had to convince me to go to this class, but the class convinced me that she was right. Too many children are killed because their car seats are not properly installed. Make it your job to know how to get this done properly.

5. Sign up for “father boot camp”.

In addition to attending prenatal classes with your partner, find and sign up for a “Father boot camp”. Sometimes called “Daddy boot camp”, this is a class for just fathers. This class introduces you to other fathers who have the same concerns you do as well as being a great source of information. You will hear from other dads what you can expect and the thing you need to prepare for both during pregnancy and the birth of your child. Check the web or talk to partner’s doctors to find out if you have a “boot camp” for new fathers in your area.

Written by William E. Petersen, author of the e-zine called Daddy Resource and the website http://www.DaddyResource.com - A Practical Resource to Help Dads Grow. William is a father of two children, Angelina who is four and Carlos who is two. He lives with his wife and children in Texas.

Arthritis Exercise - One Way to Relieve Pain & Stiffness in Your Joints (part 2)

Filed under: Shopping Mart — admin @ 12:41 am

Even when you cannot make it out to walk or to an aquatics or yoga class, there are exercises you can do daily to improve flexibility, strength and conditioning when you suffer from arthritis. You can flex your legs while sitting in a chair facing forward, simply by moving your leg outward while keeping your foot on the floor and holding it there for a few seconds, then retracting it until your foot is behind you, then alternating to the other leg. Interlocking your fingers and slowly flexing your wrists to the left and the right for a few minutes a day can help tremendously to increase flexibility and reduce pain in the wrist area.

For your upper back, you can stand upright in front of a table, then lean over and place your hands on the table and tuck your chin back toward your collarbone. Once positioned as such, lift your upper back upward and simultaneously take a deep breath. Hold that position for 5-10 seconds and then relax while exhaling. While doing this, lower your spine slowly as you move both shoulder blades forward as if toward each other. Repeat this exercise for 10-15 repetitions.

For the shoulders and middle back, start again from an upright position standing as straight as you can, reach back and lock the fingers of both hands together. Breathe slowly and deeply and lift upward with your shoulders while at the same time, exhaling. Be sure to keep your chest up and your chin in. Repeat this for about 10-15 sets.

For the shoulders and upper chest, choose a free corner of the room to stand in and place your hands on the opposite sides of the corner. Take a step back about 18 inches from the corner. You now should be facing the corner directly with your hands on both of the walls with your body some distance from the wall itself. Keeping your chest up after inhaling, lean in toward the corner while exhaling. Repeat this exercise for 10-15 sets.

Whatever exercise program you choose, be sure to breathe properly when exercising. Oxygenation is important to any exercise regimen as it promotes a healthy heart rate and reduces fatigue; additionally oxygenation helps circulation, which is vital to achieving the flexibility and strength that you are trying to achieve in battling arthritis. Also, listen to your body. It is natural to feel a little fatigue and soreness when starting a new exercise regimen, However if the pain of soreness persists for more than one hour, or you have a decrease in mobility that lasts longer than an hour, then the regimen should be reduced until the soreness desists. Also, look for signs of increased swelling of joints or any persistent increase of weakness; these are signs of activities that are too strenuous and a reduction in activity will be necessary. Just remember to take all new exercise regimens slowly at the start. The idea is to increase flexibility not train for the Olympics.

Bryan Ellis on Virtual Real Estate Investing

Filed under: Doing Business, Great Real Estate Tips, School of Marketing — admin @ 12:16 pm

Landlords and rehabbers take notice - you may soon be focused on the new concepts of “Virtual Real Estate Investing“. There are many variations on what this term means, encompassing everything from using the internet to aid in real estate investing efforts to participating in online games such as SecondLife.

To get the facts, I sought out the man generally considered to be the father of virtual real estate investing: Bryan Ellis.

Ellis says he adopted the term “virtual real estate investing” sometime before Y2K after he realized that making money online is conceptually very similar to making money with physical real estate.

One example of the parallels between virtual and physical real estate Bryan Ellis cites is the similarity between the monetization of domain names versus physical property. He points out that control of a domain name or even a specific web page is much like controlling a real estate property ” those assets can be monetized in similar ways: By selling them for a profit, by leasing them, by offering advertising, etc.

I must admit: Its easy to see the parallels. Consider this: If you own a piece of real estate in a desirable neighborhood, your real estate has value because other people are interested in that location. Similarly, ownership of a desirable domain name is valuable for the same reasons. Regardless of the type of asset, you can sell or lease or use any number of strategies to turn the assets into cash.

In our next installment of this series on virtual real estate investing., Bryan Ellis will share the internet analogies to the physical concept of real estate development.
