Do you believe in natural laws? Laws like:
• What goes up, must come down
• What you sow, you reap
• When you look down outhouse holes, you get green eyes (I know this one works - I’ve got green eyes)
Thoughts create reality is another natural law. Positive thoughts create positive results, and negative thoughts create negative results.
Does this happen for you?
When you plan your presentation, you may have doubt and worry about your delivery and content. You may fear that you will not give your client the value expected. You may fear that you will not create mutual respect with your audience. These all fall into one encompassing fear, “the fear that you are not enough.”
Guess what? At stage time, you get exactly what you thought about! It will be an ineffective presentation, lack of congruency, and lack of connection and respect. It works perfectly - a natural law - you set it up that way!
That’s what happened for me a few times when I used to “deliver presentations.” I don’t do that any more and I don’t recommend you do it either.
Since then, I have “given” hundreds of “engagements.” I give from my heart, and my intention is to engage myself with every soul in the room, intellectually, physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
This difference between presentations and engagements is where the potency of positive thinking proliferates (ohh, that is aliterarily profound).
Here are some ideas that will work for you in the planning, preparing, and engagement.
In your mind, think positively about, and visualize:
• the client, their team, and your ability to work successfully together, right from the initial contact.
• great sharing and learning during pre-program interviews and questionnaires. This is where you have the opportunity to learn as much as possible about your new friends. You’re building a relationship.
• creating, or tailoring your material especially for them.
• giving them what they “want” (valuable and original content, movement, experiences, fun). This is where the respect, rapport, and compassion are created. You will feel comfortable with them, and they will feel comfortable with you.
• giving them what they “need” (tough questions, emotional roller-coaster ride, reminders, challenges, action steps) so they can remember, or learn the tools and techniques to make positive changes in their lives.
• giving your new friends original, powerful messages in every practice session. In your mind’s eye, see them as attentive, eyes sparkling, laughing, crying, inspired, pondering, hurting, and motivated to action.
You have fears. Your audience has fears. Suck it up prince/princess!
I challenge you to face your fears, think positively, and use these ideas. When the real engagement finally happens, it will be like walking into a room of people you already know, like, trust, and respect. And the feeling will be mutual.
If you are sceptical about this positive thinking stuff, give it a try. What do you have to lose?
If you are pessimistic, go look down outhouse holes.

Does the thought of writing a love letter or poem automatically
reduce your vocabulary to a 5-year-old’s level? Well, believe it
or not, that’s a great place to begin!
Kids speak straight from the heart. They don’t worry about
tripping over the right words, they only know how to say what
they want using the most simple language. As adults, we let our
thinking get in the way of our emotions and worry about the
details before we have the big picture.
Dream up a love letter
You don’t need a sample love letter or a free printable love
letter. You’re going to dream up your own romantic love letters.
An indispensible tool for writing is a thesaurus. You’ll find
many free ones online; they’re a wonderful aid to finding
exactly the right word. Have paper and pen ready to jot notes,
but forget about words and writing for now.
Sit in a comfortable chair or lie down, let your shoulders drop
and take a few deep breaths, at least 5 or 6. Inhale deeply,
feel the air going to the bottom of your belly, then slowly
exhale as you pull in your abdomen.
Close your eyes and begin visualizing the one you love and
create a movie of you slowly running your eyes over every inch
of their body. What do you especially appreciate? View their
eyes looking back at you, run your fingers through their hair,
caress their cheek and softly brush your lips against theirs.
See the smile of joy, the tilt of their head towards you, their
arms around you. Feel their heart beat against yours and take in
the warmth of their skin. Watch as they run towards you, eager
to rush into your arms. How do you feel?
Let your movie continue running. Pull out the memories of when
you had a lot of fun and laughter, your most passionate times
together or when you were sad and your love silently held you
close. Which of them brings up the most emotion in you? What do
you see, hear, taste, touch and feel? What are they wearing . .
. or not wearing?
Linger a bit longer; let the feelings run throughout your entire
body. Are you feeling those tingles running up and down your
spine?
First love letter steps
The most emotional memories are the ones that will fuel your
love letter or poem. You should be in a better mood for writing,
relaxed and smiling. Take a few more deep breaths before you
begin to write.
You don’t have to get up; this might put you into “thinking”
mode. Begin jotting notes down. Slowly replay each movie and
describe the scenes with short, simple phrases, as a child
would. Later on, you can link these shorter phrases into longer
ones, but for now, you want to capture all the sensations,
physically and emotionally, that being with the one you love
means to you.
Love and emotions are abstract concepts so you need “furniture”
to make it real. Your movie gives you this material. Relate the
juicy details of the surrounding scenery, your love, what all
your senses experience and add them to your love letter.
Now put it all together.
Instead of “When you walk into a room and smile at me, I forget
what I’m thinking,” add the furniture. “You quietly glide into
the sunlight streaming through the window, your silky hair falls
over your shoulder. And then you gently tilt your head towards
me and flash me that quirky little half smile of yours that gets
my heart beating faster, my lips tingling . . . and I forget
everything I ever knew as our eyes meet and lock into an
embrace.”
No fancy words, there’s only two words that have three
syllables!
The “Laundry List” technique
If you find this difficult to do, using the “laundry list”
technique to write a love letter may be easier. Simply list all
the qualities you appreciate about your love: physical,
emotional, gestures, favorite sayings, funny habits. For
physical, start at the top of their head and work down to their
toes. For emotional, list different situations and how their
response makes you feel.
Or you could make a list of all the dreams you both have and how
you want to be together to share them.
Find a clip art heart (usually available in a word processing
program) and use it as a bullet before each item in your list.
Or give it a number, “101 Ways I Love You.” Then print out your
list on fancy paper. Add a photo of you both, either digitally
or glue it on afterwards. Spray on a little cologne (at a
distance) and, voila, you have a romantic love letter.
Love Poems
A love poem can be the most daunting to attempt and many won’t
even try. If you really want to make up a poem, but feel you
have no talent, cheat a little! Look up a favorite poem and see
if you can change a few lines to personalize it. Or do the same
with a favorite song lyric, then perform it karaoke style. Go
all out and dress up for the occasion.
If you have a special occasion you’re celebrating, you may want
to have a poet put your feelings into a formal poem for you.
Reciting the poem will make a bigger impact than just handing it
over and as it may be gift wrapped, make sure you have a copy to
read aloud.
Once you get the hang of it, romantic love letters will flow
from your heart and fingers. Remember the little kid in you and
keep it simple.

As business owners, you boost your exposure and credibility by writing and submitting many articles. However, how do you compel your reader to visit your website? How do you let them know you do know your stuff? Easy, write a compelling “about the author” bio at the bottom of your article with a specific description of your expertise to add credibility.
The bio is supposed to hook your readers to visit your website and subscribe to your newsletter. Once you hook them, you’ll get visitors who are:
-
likely to forward your ezines to their friends who have the same interests
- willing to recommend your services to others
- likely to buy your products
- likely to subscribe to your newsletter
Most important part is that you’ll get targeted traffic FREE - just by writing a compelling 4-line “about the author bio” at the end of your articles.
Take these 2 easy steps to edit your “about the author” bio today:
Step 1 - The first line tells the reader what solution you offer on your website
A mistake some authors make is in their “about the author” bio, they describe their accomplishments and forget about helping the reader. The website link appears at the end. The reader is not compelled to click on it. He wants a compelling reason to stop and click on your website.
You see, after the reader looked at your article, he wants to know about your expertise and how you can solve his problem. He’s thinking “what’s in it for me?” Let your website talk about your accomplishments. The bio is supposed to hook your readers to visit your website and subscribe to your newsletter. They need to know what info they’ll get when they click on your website.
Here’s an example: On your website you help people “learn how to cook Greek meals in less than 20 minutes.” Your website offers an ezine with cooking tips, and an ebook on the history of the famous Greek meals. The answer to the reader’s “what’s in it for me?” is “I can help you cook a quick Greek meal in less than 20 minutes!”
You’re telling them that you’re solving their problem of not knowing what to cook for a quick meal. Therefore, your bio’s first line would read: Ellena Pakis was raised in a Greek American family. She shares her love for Greek cuisine by helping people learn how to cook a Greek meal in less than 20 minutes on www.yourgreekmeal.com . It’s on her website where she describes in detail her studies in the Cordon Bleu, and that she’s cooked for prime ministers and presidents.
Step 2 - The second line offers a free test-drive with a free report or e-newsletter.
Now that the reader knows what to expect to see on your website, entice him to a free test-drive of your knowledge. Why? Not everyone who visits your webpage will buy a product in that moment. Some people want to see that you “know your stuff.” Some want information now and can’t spend more time surfing on a website. You’re answering their “what’s in it for me” question with a clear offer.
Give your readers what they want by offering a free report or your free newsletter. The title of your free report becomes more compelling when it includes numbers or the words ‘how to.’ Think of the headlines you see on magazine covers. They tend to say ‘6 ways to a firmer’ ’steps to a better.’
Here’s an example: Your website helps people save hours by giving tips on automating their emails with an autoresponder. The compelling free offer might look like, click here to get your free report on ‘how to write a 7-day e-course to double your opt-in subscriptions.’ Some examples are, get your free report on ‘the 7 things you must know before you write an ad’ or ‘2 steps to writing compelling subject lines.’
Don’t have a free report yet? Don’t guess what people want. Save time by already having an idea of what they want. Here are two ways you can get an idea for your free report.
-
Know your top keywords. Include in your free offer your website’s specific top keywords. For instance, what keywords did people search for the most this month according to Overture and wordtracker. Make the topic of your free report about your top 3 keywords.
- The most frequently asked questions by your customers, visitors and subscribers. What do your visitors ask you most often? You can write a free report that includes three of your most frequently asked questions. You can include these words in your free report title: ‘10 most common questions about..,’ or ‘The 7 most common problems’ and ‘how to solve them,’ ‘3 things you must know before.’
To save you time and still get your readers to visit your website and subscribe to your newsletter, send them to the page on your website where the sign up form is. It saves your readers time. If you just put your autoresponder email address, they need to open up their email account, or paste it on their ‘compose’ line. They want your free report NOW so save them some time by providing them with blank sign up form on a page of your website. That page is the link you put on after your free offer.
One of my ‘about the author’ bio reads like

There is almost no limit whatsoever on the marketability of
how-to books. Everyone wants an instruction manual, advice, and
encouragement that they can do anything they read a how-to book
for. Anything you know how to do, anything you’ve ever wanted to
learn, or anything that’s teachable at all, can become a how-to
ebook.
How-to books for hobbyists are a good way to go, and this
overlaps with the discussion above. A hobby how-to ebook could
be anything from how to build a home from hay bales to how to
play Texas Hold ‘Em to how to understand Shakespeare. One book
publisher knows how hungry we are for how-to information, and
has created a whole series of “Dummies” books around the market.
Further, there are other similar book series’, and all of them
are doing quite well! “The Everything” series, “Idiot’s Guide”
series and others are all cashing in on the how-to phenomenon.
You could cash in by creating ebooks on any or all subjects
covered in any of those series’. Go to www.dummies.com, and
check out their list of titles. Pick one you like, and move full
speed ahead!
Remember that even though the books have “Dummies” in the title,
that the books are as popular as they are because the readers
are not treated like dummies at all. The authors cater to a
person who wants to find out the easiest way to do something
without too much tangential discussion. When you have your ebook
written and when you choose a title, make sure you are appealing
to a reader’s smarts! If you use words like stupid, dumb, or
hopeless in the title, make sure that it is clear that the
meaning would not extend to insulting the individual reader.
Ebooks, because of their brevity and because they are marketed
primarily on the Internet can target smaller audiences. You
don’t have to write a universal book like How to use a computer
(which may not be interesting enough to sell anyway in this
decade). Ebooks can cover more specific territory. Knowing this,
you can 1) create your ebook in a specific way for a specific
niche readership, and 2) create additional ebooks for different
facets of the same subject, and sell each one separately!
Say you’ve decided to write an ebook on
fishing. (FYI, this is one of those hobbies where enthusiasts
are willing to spend money!). You could create “How to Catch
Freshwater Trout,” “How to Tie Your Own Flies,” or “How to Plan
a Successful Deep Sea Fishing Trip.” Almost anything related to
the hobby can become a separate ebook depending on how much
detail you include. Clearly, “How to put on waders,” probably
wouldn’t be a great choice (though some would say it’s
impossible to underestimate today’s consumer), because you would
have to strain to fill up 60 to 100 pages on such a simple
topic. You get the idea. The topic would need to be, in most
cases, book worthy. Use good judgment.
Then, life itself requires instructions, as we know from “Life’s
Little Instruction Book.” So, life also qualifies as a good
how-to book topic. There are numerous subtopics, and you’ll
never run out of ideas. Here are a few examples:
- “How to ensure your child gets an A+ in math” - “How to have a
successful garage sale” - “How to organize your home office”
And while we’re on the subject of how-to books, I’d like to make
one quick point. The titles of these ebooks do not need to be
incredibly clever. Be sure the words “How to” are the first part
of the title, and the rest should tell exactly what the ebook is
about.
For example, which of these three titles would be best?
1. “How to have a successful garage sale.” 2. “One weekend away
from a cleaner house” 3. “How to sell your old shoes for a
profit”
Although numbers 2 and 3 are clever, a little punchy, and
correspond with the ebook content, I would still recommend using
title number 1. “How to have a successful garage sale” sums it
up pretty well and will catch the eye of an Internet surfer who
is interested in putting together a garage sale and needs a
how-to manual. Anyway, back to the point. Any phase of life, way
of coping with life, or large or small thing about life can be
the subject of a how-to book.

Articles are a great way to get added exposure to your website and business, and also a great way to increase your status as an expert in your field. Because of this fact, article writing and article submissions have skyrocketed. It is still an effective form of advertising, but you must be careful not to do things that will waste your time and effort. As an article directory manager, there are some things I see that cause me to delete articles that are submitted to the article directories I manage. These are 80% of the reasons I delete articles, so if you manage to avoid these problems, you will probably have a very good chance of getting your articles accepted by many of the article directories.
Submit Articles That are Relevant To the Article Directory Subject
Most article directories are general in nature and have a subject in just about every area, but there are now more article directories popping up that have more narrowly focused and specific subjects. These are called the niche article directories. They are not as large as the general directories, but their subject matter is much more highly relevant to a specific niche.
Visitors like to focus on these niche directory sites because they don’t have to wade through thousands of unrelated articles. Article directory managers like to manage these sites because they are much easier to manage. niche directories don’t grow as fast, but when it comes to having a site that is tightly focused, it’s hard to beat for bringing value to the sites visitors.
Having said that, it still amazes me to see so many people placing obviously irrelevant articles in these directories. As an article directory manager, these articles get deleted without a second thought. Continuous offenders will get their accounts deleted. It does no good to continue this practice and only promotes bad will.
Don’t Submit Articles That Are Taken Unchanged From Reprint Rights Packages
The overabundance of private label articles rising out of nowhere, creates a lot of temptation to just take the article, add a new headline and post it willy-nilly to all of the article directories you can find. This tactic is becoming less and less likely to work as article directory managers are now aware of the article redundancy. No one wants to have a site with 10,000 articles only to find that there are really 3,000 unique articles. When I find articles that are like this, I delete both articles from the directory.
Remember, most article directory owners are wanting to provide value to their visitors first and foremost (I did say ‘most’ as there are always exceptions). Having someone slog through 10 articles where the only difference is the synonyms used, isn’t providing the reader much value. Article directory managers who care about their visitors will usually delete these types of articles, and sometimes the accounts of the repeated offending article submitter.
Link to Decent Sites in Your Resource Box
A nice benefit to reading articles is that it allows the reader to go to another site to find more information if they are interested in the subject of the article. Nothing is more disappointing than clicking the link on the resource box and going to a site that ends up advertising viagra or some other completely unrelated and questionable topic.
Look at it this way, if you don’t feel comfortable sending your own mother to the site, then you can probably bet that someone who is reading about gardening tips or home repair isn’t going to be too happy about ending up at a site like that either. I have deleted some, what I thought were good articles, because they went to these sites, or they went to some really crappy software generated site that provided the reader absolutely no additional value. Those article submissions unfortuantely were a wasted effort.
Think of it this way, as linking becomes more important, in the eyes of the search engines, do you think people are going to willingly want to link to sites that are sure to get banned, if they haven’t been banned already?
Write Articles That Are a Useful Length
Articles that are too short (usually less than 350 words) are considered more like blog entries or extended ads. Article directory owners like articles that provide value to their readers, because articles that are higher quality will be picked up by more website and ezine publishers who are looking for quality content.
Articles that provide value usually solve a problem, tell a reader where they can find information to solve a problem and why it is a good source to use, give the reader a fresh spin on a particular topic, or just educate the reader about how to do something. Articles that are only a few paragraphs usually tend to be glorified ads to a product or service. You will get much more mileage out of writing valuable content, with a link back to your site in the resource box, than by writing 3 or 4 paragraphs as to why someone should use your product or service.
Writing and submitting articles to article directories can be a very worthwhile marketing activity, however you can waste a lot of your valuable time if you use the techniques that will get your article deleted. Just use common sense about what you write, how you write it and your submission process, and you can enjoy rewards that article publishing can bring you.
