Why Melwas from Germany Visits Chamonix

Filed under: The Recreation Trail, Travel Tips — admin @ 8:00 pm

Chamonix Mont Blanc is a beautiful place with the infamous Mont Blanc as well as jagged glaciers. The group love to go paragliding or from time to time wandering around. I invariably travel from Santa Ana and stay at a Chamonix guesthouse during my stay.

I used to went to Hotel Ibis Melbourne but it sometimes didn’t meet the standards of its its advert: The Hotel Ibis Melbourne is situated within walking distance from the central business district, approximately 12 miles from Melbourne International Airport. Local attractions include the Queen Victoria Markets, the Royal Melbourne Zoo, and the Rialto Towers Observation Desk.Hotel amenities include 24-hour front desk, business services, guest laundry, babysitting, onsite parking, car rental, baggage storage, currency exchange, safe deposit box, laundry/dry cleaning, and conference facilities. Guests may also enjoy the sauna and gym.Guest rooms feature individual climate controls, AM/FM alarm clock radios, satellite/cable TVs, international direct-dial telephones, refrigerators, coffeemakers, and in-room movies.

In comparison in Chamonix Mont Blanc the self catered chalet is always excellent. As well dining in my families’ favorite restaurant, Culvers Restaurant, eating pistachio pie is a pleasure. Chamonix is a large enough town to insure that there is lots for the non-skier to do. Including a casino and a shopping arcade of designer boutiques, Chamonix offers a choice of skiing, alpine charm and sightseeing which not many ski resorts can beat.

The PS3 Is an Experience, it Is More than Just a Game Console

Filed under: Hardware + More, Online Games, The Recreation Trail — admin @ 5:55 pm

The video gaming experience is different for everyone, it could end in hours of entertainment for a family or for the less experience, the final result could be disappointment due to lack of knowledge of how to operate the game console. When you are shopping for a new game console, you may find it difficult as there are so many different options to choose from. The information you are looking for can be very difficult to find, but you will find there’s a lot of misinformation out there.

First off, here are some questions that you need to ask yourself and you should keep in mind while reading:

-What are the types of games that interest you?
Do you plan on buying an HDTV anytime soon or do you already have one?

Why dont we go over your financial situation so we can figure out what your budget is for it?

Do you prefer multi-player games, or single-player games?
Do you currently have any of the old game systems?

The PlayStation 3 was the most pricey for quite a while. It’s a good thing that you will now find lower prices on them. Now priced at four hundred US dollars (contingent upon which style you purchase)this price is more comparable. Prices change constantly so chech the latest games consoles prices online.

The Playstation 3 is more than another mere game console! It has the capability to be a Blu-Ray, CD, or DVD player; as well as; it can upgrade DVDs to HD. Blu-Ray is now the leading high-definition film format; thus, if you’ve got an HDTV but no HD movie player, a PS3 might be a great means of getting both your movie and your gaming needs met in just one place. Without an HDTV display, movies in Blu-ray format don’t provide any better quality. That feature will not be of any use to you if you have only an old-fashioned standard-def TV.

While the PS2 controller is nearly identical to it, this unique controller utilizes a motion sensing technology known as Sisaxis. The controller, which can be tilted in six different directions, is able to sense which of the directions to which it has been tilted. The results vary from game to game based on well this has been incorporated. If it is not done properly it can be very annoying, but it can add to your experience if it’s done correctly. You need to keep in mind that the Sixasis controller is missing the vibration feature. The DualShock 3 controller with vibration will not be included with the new PS3’s, even though it has been released, until June 12, 2008.

Video games for the PS3 and Xbox 360 are pretty much the same the same for either system.

The Hiker’s Checklist

Filed under: The Recreation Trail — admin @ 6:41 pm

Whether you plan to hike a team or on your own, it’s important to be prepared. Without the right gear, even a short hike can be uncomfortable or even dangerous. Luckily, some simple preparation before you go will allow you to concentrate on enjoying yourself on the trail.

  1. Appropriate footwear: For the terrain you’ll be covering, the length of time you’ll be hiking, and the pace you intend to move. For example, if you plan to cover a variety of terrain at a steady walk, hiking boots with ankle support might be appropriate. If you plan to pick up the pace, trail runners might do the trick. Whatever footwear you choose, make sure it’s well broken in before you attempt a long hike.
  2. Trail Maps: These are usually found at the trail head, but not always. Be sure to call ahead or check the Web before you go.
  3. Plenty of water
  4. Food / hearty snack
  5. Clothing in Layers: A lightweight, moisture wicking under layer should be next to your skin, followed by a middle layer, and then a breathable shell (depending on the season). This keeps you warm and dry, by pulling sweat away from your core.
  6. Socks: Always reach for moisture wicking socks, NOT cotton. Also, be sure to test your footwear/sock combination before you embark on a long hike.
  7. Rain and Wind Gear: You never know when Mother Nature will strike unannounced. If your outerwear isn’t waterproof, be prepared with a rolled up poncho or shell. This doesn’t add much weight and is a lifesaver in a downpour.
  8. Safety Items: A flashlight, whistle, and first aid kit are important for long hikes and camping. Even if you don’t think you’ll need them.
  9. Sun Block and Insect Repellent: There’s nothing worse than coming home red and itchy, and for longer hikes on exposed terrain this is a real healthy and safety issue.
  10. Bring a buddy, if possible: If not, always leave your plans with a friend or family member, including where you’re going and how long you plan to be gone.

While on the Trail:

  • Turn back if the weather conditions change
  • Stay together if hiking in a group
  • Always observe the Hiker’s Code of Responsibility:

“Leave only Footprints, Take only memories.”

Always take your garbage with you!

Kerala - Holiday in God’s Own Country

Filed under: The Recreation Trail — admin @ 2:19 pm

Touted as one of the world’s fifty destinations of a lifetime by the National Geographic, Kerala has certainly earned its position on the holiday travel bandwagon.

Located on the southernmost tip of the Indian peninsula, Kerala has a lot going for it in terms of its potential as a holiday destination… not the least its bounteous natural wealth. Its name meaning “land of coconuts”, Kerala’s luxuriant fronds provide the state with welcome shade from the tropical sun. And blessed with ample rainfall, Kerala’s equable climate and fertile soil have clothed this state in the finest of iridescent greens - all ingredients for a perfect tropical holiday.

Kerala’s lush plantations have remained an irresistible temptation for visitors from foreign lands since times immemorial. For earlier it was traders rather than holidaymakers who flocked to Kerala, lured by her spices. Today, visits to plantations growing cardamom, pepper and other exotic spices are on the holiday itineraries of most packages to Kerala.

Which brings us to Kerala’s culinary enticements. Kerala has its own unique delectable cooking, quite distinct even amongst South Indian cuisine. Drawing largely on the local produce: rice, coconuts, bananas, fish and a range of spices, the culinary achievement of Kerala lies in the variations that attend the packaging of these staple ingredients to create an endless range of dishes for the gastronomically adventurous tourist: pulaos and biryanis, appams, pootu - rice dough and grated coconut steamed in hollow bamboo, thoran - chopped vegetables, avial - stew topped with payasam - the delicious sweet milk desert.

Kerala’s extensive 900 km long coastline also means that it has some of the best beaches in India. Known for their gentle surf and clear blue waters, Kerala’s tranquil beaches are eagerly sought out by holiday tourists, Indian and foreign. Kovalam, Varkala, Shankhumugam, Vizhinjam, Kappad and Bekal are some of the famous beaches of Kerala.

However, the cream of a Kerala holiday package, for most tourists, would undoubtedly be the backwaters. Tranquil and laid-back, these backwaters are a relic of Kerala’s ancient network of floating highways. Indispensable in the past for trade and commerce, Kerala’s backwaters continue to rake in revenue from the leisure holiday industry in return for the inimitable experience of a lazy boat cruise, as Kerala unplugged floats languidly by. Kuttanad, Alappuzha, Kottavam and Kochi are the most interesting for the perfect Kerala backwaters holidays.

And then there are the hills. The Western Ghats, extending from Maharashtra southwards, terminate in Kerala with the gently rolling hills and valleys that are home to the unique shola forests and tea, coffee and spice plantations - yet another holiday attraction in Kerala. Distinct in appeal from either the beaches or the backwaters, Kerala’s hill stations with their mist filled valleys and cloud covered mountains offer perfect holiday bliss in the form of the invigorating mountain air, laden with the aroma of freshly picked spices. Nelliyampathy, Munnar, Devikulam, Peermade, and Malampuzha are some of the hill stations on the Kerala holiday circuit.

Kerala’s hilly regions are also home to lush forests and streams, making them home to some of the most spectacular wildlife reserves in India. Besides the elephant, gaur, deer, leopard and tiger, Kerala is home to rare wildlife including Nilgiri tahr and lion tailed macaque, and most holiday packages to Kerala offer a date with this raw, untamed face of Kerala. Eranakulam, Silent Valley, Parambikulam, Peppara, Nagarhole and Periyar are especially famous for wildlife holidays in Kerala.

Besides, Kerala literally brims over with history and culture, amply visible all over during a holiday here, whether in its fantastic ancient temples, its unique art forms including Kathakali and Kalaripattu and festivals such as Pooram and Onam.

Blessed with a wealth of beauty and natural resources, it is not surprising that Kerala is home to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian Science of Health. Supported by a salubrious climate, Kerala is home to a number of health spas and Wellness centres where tourists experience a rejuvenating holiday in God’s own country.

Kerala truly is a holiday paradise in India
