Are you looking for a holiday destination that is really extraordinary? You might be thinking of somewhere that provides beaches and sailing opportunities, plus the cuisine and ambience of a metropolitan city. A ideal vacation that provides all of this is a trip to the French colony of New Caledonia, located about halfway between Fiji and Australia.
As New Caledonia is situated further south than many of the other islands of the South Pacific, its climate benefits from southeast trade winds, plenty of sun, and warm weather. If a sailing holiday is what you are intending to have, New Caledonia is based in a part of the Pacific that has the biggest coral lagoon in the world. Sailing charters are easy to find and with the help of the trade winds you can sail out of the capital city of Noumea along the coastal line, past the many small islands that dot the ocean around the New Caledonia. The island also has other outdoor activities such as scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, canoeing, and kayaking.
If you were hoping for a gourmet holiday, New Caledonia has almost everything you could want. New Caledonia’s capital city, Noumea, also known as the Paris of the Pacific. Noumea features delicate gourmet French food and wine along with the other benefits of a active cosmopolitan town. Some of the best restaurants in the South Pacific can be found here. Claimed by the French in 1853, New Caledonia has a distinct French influence when it comes to food and wine.
There are lots of restaurants, ranging from sidewalk cafes to elegant bistros. French cuisine is easy to come by, but other alternatives include Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, and African food. Seafood is a specialty of the Island, including spiny lobster, prawns, crab, and mangrove oysters. One of Noumea’s national dishes is Bougna, which is fish or chicken, combined with sweet potatoes and bananas wrapped in banana leaves and then grilled covered in sand on hot stones. For the adventurous traveller on a epicurean holiday, you can try out a dish favourite with the locals, bat stew.
You can make a vacation to New Caledonia anything you want it to be: a sailing holiday, a gourmet holiday, or a time to just relax by the beach.

If you’re finding it difficult to get inspiration for a romantic weekend getaway, try doing something a little different - candlelit dinners and serenades by moonlight are nice, but there are lots of other ways to enjoy a romantic weekend breaks with your partner - a few of the more interesting ones are listed here.
Why not go back to the early days of your relationship - revisit that B&B you went to while you were still students - or go to see that play that you saw on your first date? Maybe you met at work and you could take a trip to that restaurant you used to go to on a lunch time - revisit the past and bring back those great memories.
There are unlimited destinations possible. You can book a trip far away and visit the place you honeymooned or you can eat ice cream three blocks away from where you live, at the ice cream parlor you went to the first time you spoke of love. It’s a known fact that revisiting the past is a great way to kindle fires of the future.
Instead of reminiscing about your own life, why not visit the famous spots related to celebrity life? If you have a celebrity you are both interested in, this can be a fun way to see some sights - head to Kingman, Arizona, and see where clark Gable and Carole Lobard eloped. You can even tour the hotel they stayed in, and explore the wild-west town of Oatman - which has a unique, quaint and historical feel - even down to donkeys on the street, which you can feed carrots to if you like.
Is Oatman just a bit too rustic for you? Then why not consider dining in a hot spot that isn’t so historical. Do some research for restaurants that have celebrity appeal and maybe you will be able to spot one of tinsel town’s newest celebrity couples.
You don’t have to go far for this romantic weekend getaway idea. The important thing is to just spend time together. Switch off your mobile phone, leave your laptop at home, and just head off to a bed and breakfast, or cozy inn, and enjoy some time together. Stay away from the TV, or any other distractions, and just relax with each other. It’s amazing what a little time, and peace and quiet, can do.

Thanks to the depression snowboarding occupancies decreased last skiing season.
Despite of strong early reservations along with superb skiing.
This drop in skiers follows seven winters of continuous growth in the snowboarding industry, and the number of snowboarders shrunk from 1.05 million in 2008 to less than a million last year.
This is in part due to holiday makers giving their annual snowboarding break a miss, whilst other snowboarders who’d usually have 2 ski holidays, just had the one.
Sales for the independent travel sector fell by 15% with several budget airlines slashing the amount of their routes to several cities.
Tour operators saw the numbers going down by around 15%.
Notwithstanding, the top 6 tour operators market share stayed at a healthy 73% and the French Alps remained the favorite destination with 37% of the market.
This meant that a lot of ski operators cut down the number of luxury ski chalets they run this year.
Catered ski chalets in particular are going to witness a a drop in no.s as a luxury catered chalet costs more with regards to chalet chefs and rent if it is not sold.
It’s unlikely therefore that we shall witness the deals that were around last year.
And prices are expected to augment, they probably won’t rise a lot.
Next season doubtless presents grave issues for the ski industry that is impacted by the outcomes of the recession, exchange rate pressures, increased costs of fuel on top of high fixed running costs for skiing businesses.

“Never write about a place until you are away from it, because that gives you perspective.” It seems apt to quote Hemingway when I set out to write about the island where he lived. Before you ask me, yes, I have followed his advice. I have started writing this blog only after distancing myself sufficiently from Bimini.
I’ll admit that I was curious to go to Bimini, in the Bahamas, only because of its Hemingway connection. I am no angler or fisherman and the thought of landing a massive marlin or testing my strength against a shark does not excite me in the least bit. But ever since I read “Old Man and the Sea” I had this mental image of the place and I just had to check it out.
I had heard about the Complete Angler hotel where Hemingway stayed and about the recent fire which destroyed all his memorabilia. I was more interested in meeting the people though. The people of Bimini who had met him, seen him fight, and who had heard stories of encounters with my favorite writer from their father or grand father. I wanted to see what he saw, what made him write the way he did. But it was a different era and people were different, you might say. Sadly, you would be right. Today’s Bimini is more of a tourist destination, known for game fishing and scuba diving, though little inns in places like Alice Town still have that old world charm. Once I had my fill of stories of the ‘big-one-that-got-away’ I headed to the End of the World Bar to drown my sorrows. Come to think of it, I quite enjoyed my drive down Kings Highway, looking at the brightly painted houses.
Of one thing I am sure: I will always remember this trip to Bimini and my tryst with writing.

Coming from your plane to your snowboarding domain was never easier.
These days there are a plethora of airport ski transfers based at Geneva airport, this has led to the cost of airport transfers being cut by an significant amount.
These days it is no longer the case that there were just a few taxi operators to decide on.
Now the vacationer has a crop of options, with just about all operators using a small fleet of shiny minibuses.
Especially if one is snowboarding in Chamonix Mont Blanc then travel to Chamonix could take as little as an hour, and cost 25 Euros.
The short transfer time, and the reduced costs of Geneva to Chamonix transfers, has entailed that short skiing breaks have become more popular as people decide to take less holiday time, however all the same wish to savour their snowboarding vacations.
The popularity of ski weekends is set to continue as people are eager to go on a skiing holiday, but may not wish book a whole 7 days out of the office in part due to the recession.
Yet another benefit of lower ski transfer prices is that the cost of ski breaks goes on falling.
Snowboard hire is most certainly cheaper than it used to be, especially if one takes the chance to book on line prior to leaving for your skiing vacation.
And whilst the lowered value of the pound sterling compared to the euro makes things more expensive in the town, if you are going on a catered chalet then nearly all of your holiday is paid for in pounds ahead of your arrival.

Countless avid skiers will shortly be trying to find their ski equipment and shooting away hunting for the largest snowfall. And doubtless the result from our carbon footprint will be about as far down the list of vacation essentials as a turkey sandwich after the Christmas vacation. Merely last winter, a sluggish snow made the the newspaper headlines and holidaymakers were panicky about the flecks of snow disappearing almost as soon as they landed.
Skiing holiday company Chalet 1802, located at the bottom of Mount Blanc in Chamonix France in the Alps, is one of the only autonomous businesses to go carbon neutral and afford snowboarders an environmentally friendly choice while reserving their skiing trip. Chalet 1802 owner NOUF stated: Last winter was quite a surprise with the most warm wintertime in fifty five years in Europe. Mountain ski areas like La Grave, Le Tour and Les Orres lacked clients. It was mild and the snowfall did not settle so much of the early season ski season in the French Alps was limited. We chose to become carbon negative to assist in the preservation the snowboarding resort.
NOUF said: We’re not attempting to dictate to clients but I feel it is crucial to provide them the selection without augmenting the cost of the trip. When the guest book with us and goes on holiday to our skiing chalet they may further off-set their carbon output and we soak up the additional costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - people require luxury but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we considered methods of lessening the affect of a client traveling over here for a snowboarding holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have moreover partnered with organisation Climate Care, which tackles global warming by providing carbon dioxide reductions for people and firms.

Monoskiing mounts in participants, and several of the worlds snowboarding resorts, including Auron, Meribel, Isola 2000, and Tignes are working more than before to see to it that all holiday makers revel in their skiing weekend both on and off the mountain. But of course they’re several snowboarding towns to choose from, however recently skiing fields in the European Alps and the US have been making the needed improvements to make certain that their guests do not undergo the same snowboarding vacation.
However, it is not only the US where one should perhaps search for your snowboarding break, since France also offers a few excellent skiing destinations - the famous European Alps never lets you down. La Rosiere in the Alps is in the process of being done up - celebrated for constituting the most high lift accessed peak in the Alps - a modern bar being constructed which will provide beds to accommodate mountaineers and snowboarders. Furthermore Chamonix Mont Blanc has undertaken a lot of work with the addition of numerous fresh bubbles.
Regardless if it is Europe or the States one decides to hazard for ski holidays, considering the efforts made to ameliorate the trip for the skier, it’s more than likely the ski holiday shall include a jam packed time of diversion and frippery. And so what is it you are waiting for? Go and order your chalet holiday immediately.
